Eve is back with her fourth studio album "Lip Lock" which dropped May 14th. The album featured collaborations from Dawn Richards, Pusha T, Juicy J, of course Missy Elliott, and more. The sound of the album was pretty much the same, excepted for a couple slow songs. I felt like she had the same flow like she did on Ruff Ryders, that hard core rap shit. I am just glad that a 90's female rapper has came back and put out a very good album. "Lip Lock" was a 8/10, or may be a 7.5/10. Lyrics and flow were on key, but I aspected more from Eve; may be just like 3 club hits because this is the era of turn up music. But over all Eve represented for the 90's female rappers, who eles was going to step up anyways?
'Lip Lock' started off with her single "E.V.E" ft. Missy Kitty which is my favorite record on the album. The sound, to me, was generated from London since she has been living there for sometime now. "E.V.E" had a rough Philly vibe just like the rest of her album. Other songs that gave that same vibe were "Wanna Be" ft. Missy Elliott and Naco, "Mama In The Kitchen" ft. Snoop Dogg, and "Grind Or Die". "She Bad Bad" gave me a Caribbean/Jamacian vibe but didn't set well with me until I heard the remix which was on the album as well. The remix featured Pusha T and Juicy J making the song ten times more better! Some songs that I thought were different for Eve was "Make It Out This Town" ft. Gabe Saporta, "Keep Me From You" ft. Dawn Richards, and "Never Gone" ft Chrisette Michelle. Eve still has the same flow but these songs were more out of the box, it will hopefully get spins on Urban radio stations.
Eve's last album came out ten years ago, leaving her fans thirsty for more. I am glad Eve returned with 'Lip Lock' because it was way over due. I am also glad that Eve stuck to what she knew, Hip Hip, and didn't adventure off to other genres of music like Pop, like other female artist are doing. Being Indie really helped to her advantage because she got to have her own sound and ideas. I hope that her next album has some Ruff Ryder members and maybe more newer artist as well. Thanks Eve again for being the only 90's female rapper who resurrected with an album, and a great project at that!
